Healthy Chocolate – What Is It?

chocolate shops
by avlxyz

The concept of dark healthy chocolate is something relatively new. Everyone knows that chocolate tastes yummy, but most have no idea that it is a health food in the correct form.

Researching the internet, Xocai is the main product that appears on a google search. This company, MXI Corp, has been around for a couple of years, and offers a range of dark healthy chocolate options.

They even make healthy chocolate chip cookies! It is interesting to note that now other companies, including Cadbury, are quoting health benefits of healthy chocolate treats on their wrappers.

Is There Really Such A Thing As Healthy Chocolate?

When I was young, chocolate was considered a candy, something you shouldn’t have too much of. True Cadbury used to boast a glass and a half of full cream milk in every block, but that can’t be healthy considering what I have read about dairy and cholesterol?

What’s more, chocolate has sugar in it, or it tastes extremely bitter. This was before the days we were aware of toxins in our environment and all of the adulteration of foods by the food industry.

You would have to conclude that Cadbury chocolate was not dark healthy chocolate. Woudln’t it have been great if we had healthy chocolate treats in those days! No one even considered the possibility.

Research Says Cacao Is Healthy!

When you grind Cacao Beans, you get Cacao powder and Cocoa Butter. As it turns out, organic Cacao powder in its raw form, has been demonstrated to provide a wide range of health benefits.

First at 26,000 per 100 grams, it has the highest ORAC value (antioxidant rating) of any food. Studies show benefits for Heart, Circulation, Blood Sugar, Liver, Cholesterol and there are over 1200 studies published to date.

One could say that dark chocolate was heart healthy chocolate. Clearly it is not raw Organic Cacao that is the problem here.

Why Commercial Chocolate Is Not Healthy

Any chocolate containing vegetable oil includes Palm Oil. This is obtained by clearing rain forests in Indonesia and is threatening the Orangutan population. Not good!

Often Vegetable Oils are used to replace Cocoa Butter when reconstructing chocolate. My opinion, food in its natural state has all sorts of components that make it easier to digest.

There is full cream milk in much of the chocolate and because it absorbs environmental toxins, often lead and cadmium. These are dangerous heavy metals and cause all sorts of health challenges.

Finally there may be Trans fat, High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), Artificial sweeteners, Soy , Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), and Preservatives and stabilizers . Beware of cheaper brands, as they are even less healthy! Avoid compound chocolate.

Other Chocolate Products. The healthiest chocolate is dark healthy chocolate, organic certified and containing a high percentage of raw cacao. There are claims of healthy chocolate bars, healthy chocolate chip cookies, and other healthy chocolate treats. I prefer a pure dark organic chocolate product with demonstrated health benefits.

A new product, Chava Vital Chocolate, appears to be the healthiest chocolate on earth! More about that later.

What Is A Healthy Chocolate? A Healthy chocolate is organic and grown in an area where toxins are minimized. It is not harvested by child slave labour. It does not contain palm oil. Ideally it is certified organic and dark. It should be cold processed to retain the antioxidant value of the raw Cacao Beans.

Healthy chocolate treats are low in calories as well, so weight gain is not an issue!

Why Chocolate Over SuperJuices? Well, the concept of ORAC as a measure of antioxidant capability is much touted as an anti-aging property of many of the super juices.

One square of Chava Vital Chocolate has a higher ORAC than a liter or 32 oz of any of these juices, so Chocolate beats them hands down in this department.

Chava Vital has Activated Liquid Zeolite to remove heavy metals and toxins ensuring it is of the purest standard, and a potent mood enhancer to help you feel good.

Chava has double the ORAC of Xocai, which up till now was leaps ahead of other antioxidant foods.

Chava Vital Dark Healthy Chocolate

This is a new entry to the organic chocolate market. The result of years of study by biochemists, Chava combines all the benefits of 70% raw cacao with Activated Liquid Zeolite and a proprietary mood enhancer to give an amazing 37,208 ORAC in a recent test.

It definitely qualifies as a superfood and retains all the benefits of raw Cacao. Personally, after just a few pieces, I have noticed I feel more positive, and my workout rate appears to have improved at the gym.

It is still early days, but considering the science, not unexpected. Because of its extreme anti-aging capabilities, you can expect to look and feel younger after using Chava for a period, and it makes sense you will see this in your skin.

Brunswick Labs have certified Chava with an extreme ORAC, making it a prime weapon agains Free radical damage. You can’t purchase Chava in a Chocolate Shop, as it is only available through direct distribution.

Chava is an organic, free trade, cold processed chocolate, combined with a natural mood enhancer and Activated Liquid Zeolite to provide a delicious combination of heavy metal detox and high potency antioxidants in the one product. Find out more about Chava at http://chocolatezeolite.com

Stay Healthy by Eating Chocolate!

Chocolate is one of the most delectable treats you can find. It creates feelings of pleasure, comfort and pure indulgence. However, the milk chocolate version is full of sugar and fat so you want to eat a little as possible. But not so with pure, dark chocolate, it can actually be good for you!

Pure dark, chocolate is as close to nature as chocolate can get – especially if you purchase it in a health food store.  Just make sure you get dark and not the white or milk varieties and that it contains at least 70% cocoa.  Take care that the chocolate you consume doesn’t have a lot of sugar or other additives and then start reaping the benefits of eating chocolate.

Good Antioxidant Source
Dark chocolate contains Cacao which in turn is rich in flavonoids. Flavonoids are a great source of antioxidants which help protect your body from the damaging effects of free radicals.  Unfortunately our bodies are constantly being bombarded by free radicals from the foods we eat and the air we breathe. By eating foods that are rich in antioxidants like flavonoids, can help to boost the immune system and prevent damage by free radicals.

It is important to counteract the effects of free radicals in our bodies. Free radicals have been shown to cause serious diseases including cancer, type II diabetes, asthma, allergies, and heart disease.

Another way that dark chocolate protects your heart is by helping the blood vessels to remain more flexible. As a result your body’s circulation is improved and blood pressure may even be reduced.  In addition, eating dark chocolate can help reduce cholesterol adding to the beneficial health benefits of this delicious treat!

Source of Vitamins and Minerals
Not only does it contain antioxidants, it is also chock full of vitamins and minerals.  It is a great source of vitamin B which boosts your energy levels. In addition, you will find minerals such as iron and magnesium in dark chocolate.

Great Mood Booster and Joint Protector
One of the great benefits of eating chocolate of the dark variety is the fact that chocolate is a great mood booster.  It contains serotonin which acts like a natural mood lifter, similar to how the body reacts to antidepressants.

This yummy treat is also a great joint lubricant and can help bring relief to people who suffer from some forms of arthritis.  When your joints don’t ache you have a better outlook on life, sleep better and just feel better!

Moderation is the Key!
Now just because there are many health benefits associated with eating dark chocolate doesn’t mean you can make it one of your primary food groups. All good things must be taken in moderation and that goes for healthy treats as well.

Even diabetics can benefit from eating dark chocolate. Because it is lower in sugar and carbohydrates than the lighter varieties, it is a perfect occasional treat for people who must monitor their sugar intake. However, like everyone else diabetics should eat chocolate in moderation.

One good rule to remember is to limit your intake of dark chocolate to between 100 and 500 calories a day. It is best to keep it on the lower side.   For best results, make sure your chocolate does not contain much or any dairy. Dairy products can be a source of stomach problems and dairy may inhibit the effects of the antioxidants. Remember, a small bar of dark chocolate every day may help keep the doctor at bay.

Paige is a graphic designer who enjoys fitness, the outdoors and spending time with her children. She loves to use hot chocolate machines to make a great cup of hot chocolate for everyone at the end of the day. Her favorite cocoa machine is the Cocoa Latte and she uses it every night!

Healthy & Nutritious Gourmet Pistachio Nuts Make Great Nuts Gifts

Gift giving was so much simpler in the past because you could merely buy a gift card for someone who was difficult to shop for from a store you knew they enjoyed. You gave a gift and the recipient got exactly what they wanted; everyone was happy in the end. A lot of people were left with worthless gift cards once bankruptcy was declared for some of the big name stores. You should try thinking outside of the big name store “box” before you start trying to figure out sweater and shirt sizes.

I’ve come up with the ideal way to solve nearly all of my gifting dilemmas. Healthy and nutritious pistachio nuts make great gifts; that is what I choose to give. A wide variety of package options are available for you to choose from. Three pounds of California golden roasted and salted pistachios packed in a keepsake treasure chest box is my absolute favorite. The box makes a beautiful memento to hold onto; you can use it for jewelry, stationery, or any other items you may have, plus you have the tasty nuts to enjoy.

I generally keep a stash of pistachios in one pound bags, especially around the holidays. For those friends or neighbors that just may stop by with a gift for you, these are very handy to have around as a small gift to give them in return. The holiday bag of pistachios is a unique and surprising present and doesn’t ever appear to be a last minute purchase.

I skip the customary boxed chocolates or wine and opt for a healthier choice — pistachios. Even diabetics can safely enjoy nutritious pistachio nuts, and who ever heard of anyone having to kick a pistachio habit because it was unhealthy? Forty-nine pistachio nuts make up a serving that is good for your heart, containing healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats. Loaded with all kinds of nutrients from vitamin A to Zinc, these are very tasty and appealing nuts. They make an excellent treat, when eaten in moderation.

California roasted and salted pistachios are available in a wide variety of packaging options, to include special decorative and holiday types of packaging. I make sure my brother is stocked up for football season by giving him a four pound container of unshelled pistachios. In order to maintain his athletic form and moderate the pace of his eating, he prefers them in the shell. I buy my parents the two and a half pound jar of pistachio kernels so their fragile fingers will not have to bother with the shells.

This season I plan to mix things up by adding different pistachios in flavors like Gourmet Jalapeno Roasted Pistachios, Gourmet Chili Lemon Roasted Pistachios, and Gourmet Garlic Roasted Pistachios. So that my family does not eat all of the gifts before we have a chance to give them, I always order an extra.

Nutritionist Galvin Nussingten knows how good Roasted nuts are for the body and often gives them and other nuts to friends and family. Galvin orders all his Nut gift boxes online from Yurosek Farms, as he can count on getting the freshest nuts at a great price.

Healthy Dark Chocolate and Antioxidants — Give Your Body a Boost?

Dark chocolate is certainly not the first food that would come to mind when considering “Healthy”. However, evidence is mounting that the extremely high concentrations of Heart Healthy antioxidants found on the cocoa bean may well provide a much needed antioxidant boost to supplement our body’s defensive barriers.

An antioxidant is a molecule that is capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation process in other molecules.

Oxidation is a chemical process in which an electron is attracted from a stable substance and moves to an unrelated oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can be caused by “free radical” molecules, which by themselves, can cause harmful chain reactions that will damage otherwise healthy cells.

Healthy dark chocolate is an excellent source for providing your system with high concentrations of antioxidants, which can neutralize and thus limit the damaging effects of free radical molecules in your body

Let’s take a look at this cell damaging villain … the “Free Radical”.

Free radicals are not the result of disease or injury. They are created naturally in our bodies as the result certain chemical reactions, such as generating energy to feed our cells during physical exertion. They can also be imported into your system through cigarette smoke and other airborne pollutants.

Free radicals are chemically imbalanced, missing one or more electrons and thus having a ‘positive’ charge.

These radical molecules will seek to balance their charge, and will attract or ‘steal’ electrons from other molecules, including the molecules that make up your body’s DNA and the mitochondria in your cells.

The mitochondria creates the energy necessary to sustain the life of the cells. Damaged mitochondria are weak and have lower energy and less resistance to disease.

The DNA structure in each of your body’s cells carries the blueprint necessary for cellular reproduction and duplication.

When the DNA is altered as a result of the free radical, the new cells that are created are imperfect and possibly malignant with the potential to form tumors or cancers.

Free Radicals are linked as a significant cause of most degenerative diseases, including heart disease, premature aging, diabetes, high blood pressure, and the creation of cancer cells and tumors.

Enter Antioxidants! Antioxidants are molecules that have available one or more FREE electrons. They therefore have a “negative” charge, and attract wandering, positively charged Free Radical, rendering them neutral and removing the threat to healthy cells. This free radical is now chemically balanced, and is no longer a threat to ‘steal’ electrons from your body’s healthy cells.

So, having established the vital importance of having free radical neutralizing antioxidant molecules in your body … where do they come from?

The human body is an amazing organism. Much of what our body requires to sustain life can be generated from within. This is somewhat true for antioxidants; however, dietary supplementation is also required.

Vitamin C is a good example. Unlike most other animals, vitamin C is NOT created within the human body and must be acquired through diet.

Most people are well aware of the importance of a consistent source of vitamin C in their diet. Vitamin C is a monosaccharide antioxidant, and proper levels must be maintained either through diet or supplementation in order to maintain a healthy body.

So, what is the relationship between healthy dark chocolate and antioxidants?

Scientists have known for years that cocoa contains significantly high levels of antioxidants.

According to research cited in The New York Times, fresh cocoa beans are super-rich in the type of flavonoid called flavanols, which are very strong antioxidants. All 3 known flavanols are found in the cocoa bean at an amazing 10% antioxidant concentration level.

Another research study conducted by researchers of the Department of Food Science and Technology at Cornell University showed that flavanols in cocoa make blood platelets less likely to stick together and cause blood clots. They also prevented fatty substances in the blood stream from sticking together and clogging arteries.

So, simply eat chocolate and gain these healthy benefits? Well, it is not nearly that simple. Any product resulting from the processing of the cocoa bean can be called chocolate; however, very few of these products would realistically qualify for a clinical definition of being ‘healthy’.

An understanding of how the cocoa beans are processed and the type and quantity of additives in order to create a specific chocolate product is essential for determining potential health benefits.

The multitude of Health benefits certainly appears to justify doing some research and identifying a source for antioxidant rich, Healthy Dark Chocolate.

Network Marketing In The Healthy Chocolate Business?

There are a few different things I find online every single day that people are trying to sell. Sometimes I say to myself hmm that would definitely work, and other times I think about how badly it’s going to bomb. One of the “hmm that definitely would work” ideas came to me today when I was searching for chocolate online. This isn’t just any chocolate though, its healthy chocolate! Healthy? Yes! Don’t worry this isn’t that nasty stuff you get at weight watchers, this is premium chocolate, it tastes good, it looks good, it is good! These are the types of businesses people should be getting into. Not only has dark chocolate been proven time and again to be healthy, but everyone loves chocolate! You ever see those crazy diets online that say you can eat anything and still be healthy? Cheeseburgers, french fries, milkshakes, etc. Well I’m sorry guys but this is NOT true! However, dark chocolate really is good for you! Here’s a few facts you might be interested in:

In a study done by Dr. Dirk Taubert MD and colleagues at the University of Cologne in Germany, it is a proven scientific fact that dark chocolate and only dark chocolate can have several different healthy benefits such as high blood pressure, lowers cholesterol and can destroy the molecules implicated in heart disease. This is some major information here. Dark chocolate can also make you feel happier as it stimulates the endorphin productions, and it contains serotonin which acts as a self antidepressant. Dark Chocolate is a potent antioxidant, reports Mauro Serafini, PhD, of Italy’s National Institute for Food and Nutrition Research in Rome, and colleagues. Furthermore, Doctor Mauro says “our findings indicate that milk may interfere with the absorption of antioxidants from chocolate … and may therefore negate the potential health benefits that can be derived from eating moderate amounts of dark chocolate.”

This is an incredible “sell” to people that might be interested in joining a chocolate network marketing company under you as an affiliate and even better it’s a superb way to reach people if you are in a network marketing company that sells chocolate. In other words, this is a very interesting way to make some very good money online, from home, on your own time. Hey, I work from home and it is one of the greatest things ever! I wouldn’t trade it for anything! Not only do I get to spend my time the way I want, but I make good money doing what I do and I enjoy what I do. So, network marketing in general is a great thing to get into, but if you want to get into it and sell something that is ever popular, healthy chocolate would be the way to go!

If Dark Chocolate is Healthy — Do Pigs Now Fly?

Ask 20 people their reaction to the word “Chocolate”, and you will probably get these responses … yummm, awesome, contentment, relaxing, delicious, calming … but HEALTHY?

Chocolate is a treat, a candy, an indulgence that for centuries has been enjoyed worldwide. Chocolate can quiet a crying child, impress a romantic interest, and add comfort to a relaxing moment … but HEALTHY? Oh yea … so it appears!

Recently, there has been much publicity about the cardiovascular benefits from antioxidants found in Red Wine and Green Tea.

A recent study conducted by scientists at Cornell University found that cocoa powder, the base from which chocolate is made, contains nearly TWICE the antioxidants of red wine, and up to three times the antioxidants found in green tea.

It is now known that raw cocoa, derived from the FRUIT of the Cacao tree, contains more than 300 chemically identifiable compounds, making it one of the most complex food sources on this planet. In addition, it has been established that raw cocoa has the highest antioxidant value of ALL natural foods in the world!

Fresh cocoa is super-rich in strong antioxidants called flavonoids (up to 10% concentration per mass of cocoa). These flavonoids have been clinically proven to help maintain healthy blood flow and stabilize blood pressure. They also help keep fatty substances in the blood from congealing together, thus decreasing the risk of oxidation and clogging of the arteries.

Flavonoids are also known to help keep the blood platelets from sticking together … a condition that can lead to blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes.

The antioxidants found in dark chocolate help to neutralize naturally occurring ‘free radical’ molecules in the body. Free radicals, if left unchecked, can damage the core structure of healthy cells which leaves them susceptible to disease.

Free radicals can also alter the structure of the cell’s DNA, which is the blueprint for a cell to reproduce and duplicate itself. Damaged DNA can lead to malignancy, tumors, and cancer.

Healthy dark chocolate as a nutritional supplement is not merely all about antioxidants.

Cocoa is a good source of the minerals sulfur, calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, copper, potassium, manganese, plus some of the important B vitamins.

Of these minerals, magnesium is by far the most important. Proper magnesium levels in the body are essential for a healthy heart and ensure its strength and vigor.

Magnesium helps regulate blood pressure and the heartbeat. It also decreases blood coagulation leading to lower blood pressure.

A deficiency in magnesium can have far reaching health consequences, including hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, joint problems, and PMT.

Just as with antioxidants, organic dark chocolate is the highest rated natural food for providing this heart healthy essential mineral.

Another mineral with a high concentration in cocoa is sulfur. Sulfur promotes healthy skin, helps build strong nails and healthy hair, helps detoxify the liver, and supports healthy functioning of the pancreas.

Organic dark chocolate also provides supplemental benefits for the brain.

Cocoa is a potent source for the amino acids which make the neurotransmitters known as serotonin and dopamine. These two agents help alleviate depression and stimulate feelings of well being.

Phenylethylanmine (PEA) controls our ability to focus attention and stay alert. It has also been indicated as an integral element in maintaining mental alertness and countering the onset of dementia.

Another healthy chemical compound found in healthy dark chocolate, 2% – 3% per mass, is ‘theobromine.

This health promoting compound stimulates the central nervous system, relaxing smooth muscles and dilating blood vessels. As a known diuretic, it has been clinically used to remove excess body fluids, reduce high blood pressure, and stimulate the heart.

Chocolate has been known as the “comfort” or “happy” food, and rightfully so.

Anandamide, a neurotransmitter, is found in significant quantities in cocoa. Anandamide occurs naturally in the brain, and is released when we are feeling good. The introduction of more of this ‘bliss chemical’ helps contribute to our feeling of having a ‘natural high’.

ABC news reported in 2005 that the average American consumes 11.5 pounds of chocolate per year. This amounts to a full 1% of the American diet. These numbers are really not surprising.

There is no doubt that for centuries, humans have maintained an ongoing love affair with chocolate. Accepting organic, healthy dark chocolate as a heart and mind healthy food instead of simply a feel good snack certainly takes some getting used to.

Try to imagine a conversation at the dinner table like this … “Billy, you’re not leaving this table until you finish your dark chocolate”?

Although that conversation seems hard to imagine, providing yourself and your family with a consistent diet rich in healthy nutrients DOES NOT, and Healthy Dark Chocolate may clearly be indicated as a wise menu addition.

However, not all “Healthy Dark Chocolate” products are created equal. The challenge now lies in determining which of these delicious, satisfying, cocoa rich products provide the most health benefits for you and your family.

Even though there are many switching over to the more bitter taste of dark chocolate, not only for the taste but because of the countless studies that come out revealing the amazing health benefits from the cacao seeds, there are still many who prefer the sweeter taste of milk chocolate. Consequently, Xocai has answered the call with a milk chocolate peanut butter cup.

This 14gm milk chocolate peanut butter cup has 3 grams of protein, is only 80 calories, and has an amazing ORAC score of 10,000. This is the antioxidant value that many look for when reading labels. That amount is equivalent to eating 2 lbs. of broccoli. For those who enjoy the sweeter taste of milk chocolate and strive to get all their antioxidants each day to help neutralize the free radicals in the body, this new product just may be the answer.
