Dark Chocolate- The Wonderful Dark Delight

Are you too like me head-over-heels in love with dark chocolate? Now you can hog them as much as you wish without feeling guilty of it affecting your health or you putting on tons of weight.

Dark chocolate is also known as healthy chocolate when compared to milk chocolate or white chocolate simply because of its health benefits. Dark chocolate has more than 65% of cocoa content in it. The taste of dark chocolate may not be as appealing as that of the other two, but it can boast of being as elegant as wine with a class that associates with a fine dinner.

Have you wondered how this wonderful edible delight is made? Cacao pods are harvested from the cacao plant. These shells are removed to obtain cacao nibs which are fermented and made a paste out of it. This paste is call cocoa liquor or chocolate liquor. This liquor can be routed to cocoa solids and cocoa butter. This cocoa solids and cocoa butter in varying proportion gives bitter chocolate.

By controlling the quantity of cocoa butter and solids in the cocoa liquor and by adding fat and other sweeteners different types of chocolates are produced. The bitter chocolate when combined with milk and sugar in varying degrees forms the very popular dark , milk and white chocolate. Similarly if other ingredients are added, chocolate of different flavours are produced.

Dark chocolate is said to be highly beneficial. Studies have signified that consuming a bar of dark chocolate everyday can lower your blood pressure and even cholesterol level.

It is known to be good for the circulatory system, which is due to the component called epicathechin present in cocoa.

Did you know chocolate is known to be an aphrodisiac? It means an object that increases sexual desire. But there is no scientific proof for this. Another known goodness of chocolate is that consuming chocolate drinks are known to give better muscle recovery when compared to other recovery beverage of high carbohydrate.

Cocoa also plays a key role in medicine. Studies say that cocoa when used in certain types of drugs helps in the treatment of diseases like diabetes. Also cocoa is said to be a good supplement in delaying the brain function delay that happens with age. It is also effective in reducing diarrhoea and cough symptoms.

Now, lets see into a few evils of dark chocolate. Chocolates can cause obesity, by providing high level of calories. This is mostly seen in milk chocolates and white chocolate due to the fat content and sugar in it. Chocolate is known to increase acne, but it is mostly due to the cocoa content or due to the fatty substances used in chocolate. The lead content in chocolate can cause lead poisoning and is highly dangerous to animals.

It is important to buy dark chocolate from good retailers as if the cocoa beans are not handled well, it give a sour taste, making dark chocolate not so delightful.

Gardening – For the Love of Chocolate – New Specialty Nursery Grows “Chocolate” Plants

Gardening – For the Love of Chocolate – New Specialty Nursery Grows “Chocolate” Plants

Redmond, WA (PRWEB) February 10, 2005

Imagine a garden filled with chocolate – chocolate mint; chocolate columbine; chocolate morning glories; chocolate nasturtiums; chocolate daylilies; chocolate foxglove; chocolate sunflowers and much more.

Imagination becomes reality this spring at Chocolate Flower Farm where owners Marie Lincoln and Bill Schlicht specialize in growing unusual, rich, dark plants that add a spot of drama and exotic beauty to the garden. Not just chocolate colored plants but plants in shades of maroon, purple and black and even several plants that smell like chocolate such as Chocolate Cosmos (Cosmos atrosanguiness), Chocolate Flower (Berlandiera lyrata) and Chocolate Vine (Akebia quinata).

What came first, the chocolate or the flowers? “Our nursery is named after Bill’s love of chocolate and my passion for gardening. I already was partial to dark plants and had quite a collection of them in our gardens, thus we combined our two passions and named our farm Chocolate Flower Farm. When we decided to start a specialty nursery it made sense to specialize in ‘chocolateÂ’ plants since that was already our farm name”, says Lincoln. “Bill must have chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner but gardeners cannot live on chocolate alone so we grow many complementary plants as well”, adds Lincoln.

Black plants have become quite popular with gardeners in recent years and Chocolate Flower Farm offers an extensive selection, including black hollyhocks; black columbine; black violas; black snapdragons; black poppies and black grasses.

After spending several years collecting rare specimen plants and seeds for propagation and with the recent purchase of an eight-acre farm in Langley on Whidbey Island Schlicht and Lincoln will move from their Redmond farm to the Langley farm and Chocolate Flower Farm will be opening there in April. The new address and contact information will be posted on the nurseryÂ’s website http://www.chocolateflowerfarm.com.

Chocolate Flower Farm currently offers plants, seeds, garden accessories and specialty gifts such as chocolate candles via mail order from their website. They can be reached via phone at 425.681.9758 or email info@chocolateflowerfarm.com.

Heli Skiing And Hot Chocolate- Skiing The New Way

I must confess that I did not go to Zermatt entirely of my own volition. I had been once ten years ago and not been particularly impressed. As a resort it seemed to thrive off the amazing view of the Matterhorn and well… not much else. The hotel we stayed in didn’t seem to quite understand the idea of service and I remember lying in bed and freezing my socks off before going out onto the slopes and queuing for extremely long periods of time and freezing my socks off some more. The joy of looking at the Matterhorn wares slightly thin when you are close to hypothermia and I decided it was an experience I wasn’t keen to repeat.

My husband has a friend at work who is one of those people who can’t just lie on the beach in Portugal once a year and be done with it. He is the keeping up with the Jones’ of holidays. If he’s not kite surfing on the Mexican coast then he’s photographing almost extinct species from his tree top boutique-hotel in Africa. His latest adventure had been heli skiing in the Alps and my husband was gripped by the idea. Heli skiing is basically being flown by helicopter to the top of an otherwise inaccessible mountain and then skiing down it. It is skiing heaven and as an avid skier he was desperate to try it.

I like skiing but since the frosty reception at Zermatt I had always played it safe and opted for the overly cheery ‘have a nice day’ staff at Whistler. But, according to all reports Zermatt had changed. Apparently they have realised that although the Matterhorn is a definite draw it does not guarantee tourists and therefore after five decades they have upped their game. And upped their game they certainly have, with a new ski lift system, and ski area to rival the top five resorts in the world. It has worked hard to capitalise on it’s good points, such as it’s quaint traditional architecture and pedestrian only town, as well as provide all the ingredients of a great ski location including guaranteed snow, great nightlife and fantastic accommodation.

The Zermatt chalets of today may be traditional on the outside but are anything but on the inside, with uber glamorous features such as cinema rooms, hot tubs, and services such as private chefs and chalet hosts often being offered as standard. Far from being chilly I felt as though I was living in the lap of luxury. Heli skiing was pioneered in Europe at Zermatt and the skiing we did was as breath taking as it was exhilarating. I would do it again in an instant. Specialist companies such as Ski in Luxury and Oxford Ski can help you find the best operators. The teams at Scott Dunn and VIP ski are also experts in Heli skiing breaks.

There is no escaping the imposing Matterhorn wherever you are in Zermatt, and with everything else so perfect, admiring it from the hot tub on our balcony made our holiday complete.

I don’t know if I fancy kite surfing on the Mexican coast any time soon, but i’ll definitely be open to suggestions!

Kate Ransby familiarizes us to Heli skiing with a classic, adventurous and lively feeling. Furthermore, the author adds the Zermatt chalets with mind-blowing facilities.

Chocolate Gift Ideas

Chocolate is one of the most-loved and popular gifts of all time. It seems to be suitable for a great variety of occasions, from birthdays and Christmas to celebrating a graduation or the birth of a new baby. And of course, many people simply buy themselves chocolate for a treat on a regular basis. But nothing can compare to the romance of receiving a gift of chocolate.

But the occasion need not be a romantic one. You can give chocolate gifts at an office party or even send chocolate hampers overseas to friends and families. Chocolate is so versatile because there are many varieties and it can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion. You can give a beautiful chocolate bouquet for a romantic gift, or something much simpler, like a box of chocolates. Then again, you can make up a chocolate hamper of your own or buy one ready-made.

Chocolate gifts are just what you need to please that hard-to-buy-for person on your Christmas or birthday list. You can choose from gourmet chocolate hampers or maybe even more fancy chocolate bouquets. By adding chocolates with soft centres, dark chocolate or even white chocolate as well as several different brands, your recipients are sure to be satisfied.

For themed gifts you can add chocolate gifts to other things such as books, flowers, baby gifts or even gardening items. The gardener in your life will be sure to appreciate that tasty chocolate addition after a hard few hours of gardening. And while a baby cannot eat chocolate, the new mum should certainly be presented with a gift of chocolate after all her hard work.

Older friends and family will also welcome chocolate gifts. How much more interesting to receive a gift of chocolate rather than a boring tin of talc or some soap? Chocolate gifts are sure to make them feel loved and appreciated.
